Nuestra Madre en el Cielo orar por nosotros en esta pandemia /Our mother in heaven prays for us during this pandemic

¿Han notado como las definiciones cambian hoy en día? Conceptos como “internet rápida" es distinto ahora. Lo mismo se puede decir sobre lo que entendemos por “tiempo razonable” y la definición de “familia” que incluye a miembros que no están vinculados por la sangre.
 
Tal vez cuando hablamos del término “madre” compartimos una definición en común: una mujer quien ama, nutre y da su vida por el bien de los suyos. Este año, el Día de la Madre es el 10 de mayo en los Estados Unidos, pero durante todo el mes de mayo, nosotros católicos demostramos nuestra devoción a nuestra madre celestial, Maria. Con los recursos virtuales e impresos, es muy fácil encontrar oraciones que nos ayuden a orar en acción de gracias y súplica a Maria. Tal vez nuestra definición de “tiempo de oración” es diferente por la pandemia, pero Maria comprende y de seguro que escucha nuestras oraciones sin importar cuándo se ofrecen.
 
Como madre de familia, me ayuda pensar en María como madre. Recordando la historia de las bodas en Cana. Me sonrío imaginando a Maria diciéndole a los sirvientes “Hagan lo que Él les dice” (Juan 2:5). Creo que Maria conocía bien a su hijo, sabia de su generosidad y amabilidad. Ella sabía que el ayudaría al anfitrión de la fiesta, aunque Jesús sugirió que no era todavía el tiempo de manifestarse en su plenitud. Ella confiaba en la bondad de Jesús. Tal vez Él estaba tratando de complacer a su mama también. Quiero pensar que conozco bien a mi hija también, y que ella trataría de responder a cualquiera de mis preocupaciones. Los padres también se pueden identificar con este deseo.
 
Tenía 33 años cuando mi madre viuda murió. Fue triste. Sin embargo, me consuela saber que tengo una madre celestial que me ama aún más que cualquier madre terrena. Yo me incluyo cuando leo en Juan 19-26-27 que Jesús dijo, “Mujer, aquí está tu hijo,” y al discípulo amado, “Aquí tienes a tu madre.” ¡Qué gran regalo nos da Jesús! Me da confianza saber que Maria intercede por mi ante su querido hijo, Jesús. Que honremos a nuestra Reina Madre en el cielo durante el mes con varias formas de oración y devociones. Ella está con nosotros durante estos tiempos tan difíciles. María nos ayuda a escuchar lo que Jesús nos está diciendo.

Have you ever noticed how definitions change with the times? What was “high-speed” a few years ago has been superseded many times since. What we considered a “reasonable” amount of time, has probably shortened as advances have been made in technology and manufacturing. The definition of “family” has broadened to include members who do not share bloodlines.
 
When it comes to “mother,” I think most of us still share a common definition: a woman who loves, nurtures, and devotes her life for the welfare of her offspring. This year, Mother’s Day is May 10, but during the whole month of May, we Catholics show our devotion to our heavenly mother, Mary. With the high-speed internet, as well as a lot of hard-copy literature on bookshelves, it is very easy to find devotional prayers to help us pray in thanksgiving and supplication to Mary. Our definition of “prayer time” may be a bit different because of the pandemic, but Mary understands and certainly hears our prayers no matter when they are offered.
 
Being a parent myself, I like to think of Mary as a parent. Remembering the story of the marriage feast of Cana, I smile when I think of Mary telling the servants, "Do whatever he tells you” (John 2:5). I believe Mary knew her son and his kindness and solicitousness. She knew he would help the wedding host, even though Jesus suggested that it was not yet time to demonstrate fully who he was. She trusted in Jesus’ goodness. Perhaps he wanted to accommodate his mother too. I like to think I know my daughter quite well, and I expect she would do what she could to answer any of my concerns. Fathers can probably relate to this just as well.
 
I was 33 when my widowed mother passed. It hurt very deeply. However, I am comforted to know that I have a heavenly mother who loves me even more than any earthly mother could. I take it very personally when I read in John 19-26-27 that Jesus said, “Woman, here is your son;” and, to the beloved disciple, “Here is your mother.” What a gift Jesus gave to all of us! I certainly appreciate Mary praying for me to her loving son, Jesus. May we honor our Queen Mother of Heaven all month long, with all kinds of creative daily prayers and devotions. She is mothering us during these challenging times. Mary may help us hear whatever Jesus is telling us.
